When one receives a life-limiting diagnosis, it can send an individual and their families into a tailspin of emotions including shock, pain, stress, fear, anger, confusion, isolation, denial and grief.  It is critical that those who are facing death as well as their loved ones have somewhere to turn for help.  The unfortunate truth, right now, is that many people are dying without the support they need and deserve.  Heart House is dedicated to making it easier for as many people as possible, but help from the community is required.  You can help meet these community needs.

On Thursday, October 19, 2107 at 6 p.m. Heart House Hospice will host Handbags for Hospice with an Art Battle at the Versailles Convention Centre in Mississauga.  This unique event brings together 300 women for an evening of purses to bid on, fun, laughs, gourmet goodies, a silent auction, and ART.  Included in this year’s event is an Art Battle.  Guests will enjoy watching six professional artists paint in two rounds of 20 minutes producing twelve masterpieces.  The artwork will then be placed in the silent auction for guests to bid on.  This is sure to be an evening not to be missed.

It doesn’t matter how familiar we are with the health care system, or with the processes surrounding end of life, the burden of illness and loss affect us all. Thanks to community support, palliative care can be provided with dignity and peace for those who choose to live their last days at home rather than in a hospital bed.
