Bereavement
A loved one has died.
Where do you go from here? Taking those first steps alone in a world which has changed irrevocably can be a frightening and traumatic thought.

The journey through grief can often be painful, overwhelming and lonely, but it need not be undertaken alone.

Heart House is committed to providing a continuum of care to its clients and their families, and the Bereavement Support Program is a natural extension to the existing services we offer.

We can offer support, encouragement and companionship by walking beside you for a while on your healing journey.

One-to-one Bereavement Support
Heart House staff and volunteers support clients and their families through the difficult times associated with a life threatening illness. Through this interaction relationships of trust and empathy are established. Bereavement Support continues the commitment to provide care to family members and caregivers following the death of a loved one. One to one grief and loss support is available in person with the Coordinator of Bereavement and Spiritual Care. It is important to reach out for comfort, support and companionship on your grief journey.
Bereavement Support Groups and Information Sessions
Bereavement support group for family members, friends and caregivers of Heart House clients. Information sessions throughout the year on various grief, loss and bereavement issues.

Sharing your story and your grief journey in a safe and supportive atmosphere with others who are going through a similar experience can assist in enabling you to make those first tentative moves towards a new life. In our group, you will be free to express your feelings, share memories, discuss the many challenges you are experiencing in a place where you will be accepted for who you are, and where you are on your journey, without judgment.

Our group is facilitated by trained Heart House bereavement support workers.

Resource Materials
Our well stocked library contains many books and videos on loss and grief. Our Bereavement Support Coordinator will be happy to spend some time with you reviewing these materials and discussing any which might be helpful to you. (click for link to Library info)
