How do people make a difference driving for the Heart House Hospice Day Program and Spa?  Driving is a wonderful way to be an ambassador for the Day Program and Spa. Karen one of the volunteer drivers for the Day Program feels, “Driving is a modest commitment offering a huge benefit to the person which in turn rewards the volunteer with warm satisfaction.”

The driver has the opportunity to get to know the person on a one to one basis, answer questions that they may have and hear about the day’s events on the return journey.  Cameron who has volunteered for over 17 years states, “I have learned so much driving individuals to the Day Program and Spa. In our short drive together they often open up sharing their life experiences, thoughts, and feelings. My Dad, who until recently volunteered at Heart House Hospice, used to call it experiencing “the university of the car.” Mary, another driver for the Day Program feels, “Volunteers are love in motion.”

Heart House Hospice is a special kind of caring since 1985 serving the communities of Mississauga and Brampton.  We are a non-profit organization proving compassionate, high quality, in home support to families and those living with life limiting illness.

“I want to thank the volunteers for all the hard work that they do. I really appreciate it. I look forward to coming here on Wednesday’s because it’s so enjoyable for me.”-Kim

Drivers who choose to drive for Day Program would need to commit to being available from approximately 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoons. Drivers who choose to drive for the Spa would need to commit to being available two Monday mornings a month or Wednesday evenings.  Drivers for our Day Program and Spa are urgently needed. In order to become a driver, you need a G license, provide a driver’s abstract, police clearance, minimum age 21 with 5 years driving experience and $1 million in liability insurance. What will you get in return? The opportunity to meet and make a difference in a person’s life journey, receive .40 per km reimbursement, training in the palliative field and to be part of a great organization of wonderful volunteers and staff.
